Bars with a special something
- Bikini Mitte (photo) has quickly become a cult hit with one of the best deli counters in the city. Its striking tiled lettering and relaxed atmosphere make it doubly memorable. A deli and café by day, it becomes a bar with a great taste in music at night. Kick back and relax and the end of a hard day at this trendy yet laid-back spot.
- The terrace at the Golden Bar at the Haus der Kunst gallery is quite legendary. But even if the weather isn't playing ball, there's lots to enjoy at the bar inside (photo). The name says it all - hardly any other bar is as stylish as the impeccably decorated Golden Bar, making it the perfect place to enjoy an after-work cocktail. And the barkeepers are all top notch as well.
- Café Bellevue , which features a huge outdoor terrace, regularly hosts local DJs from several different genres. If you want a bit of exercise before (or after) your visit, Café Bellevue is perfect: It's located right next to the Nordbad indoor pool, which is open until 11 pm.
Cheers to a great evening! Quaint taverns

- In the world famous Hofbräuhaus everything revolves around rustic ambience, traditional cuisine, the brewery’s impressive history and, of course, the fresh draft beer. There are few other places in the world that capture the atmosphere of the Oktoberfest that well.
- There are many smaller restaurants that successfully combine German gemütlichkeit with good cuisine: Gaststätte Zum Kloster in Haidhausen to name just one. In addition to traditional Bavarian fare, this restaurant also serves up sophisticated international dishes every week.
- If you’re looking for a quaint, traditional tavern, head to Tattenbach in Lehel. This restaurant is located in a historically listed building. You’ll immediately see why once you take your seat at a table. It goes without saying that the beer and food served here are the cream of the crop.
Going out in Glockenbach district

Anette Göttlicher
It’s no secret, but hardly any other district can compete with the area around Gärtnerplatz in terms of sheer number of bars.
- Enjoy the laid-back atmosphere at Trachtenvogl: Sophisticated dishes grace the pages of the menu and the drinks range from after-work classics (like beer) to hot pear cider with cinnamon. Although Trachtenvogl is only open until 10 pm, you’re never far from the next bar in Glockenbach!
- Just a hop, skip and a jump away: Für Freunde and Holy Home. Both combine a relaxed atmosphere with excellent DJs playing music ranging from hip hop to soul.
- Head over a few streets for exceptional quality mixed drinks at Zum Wolf. The bar’s interior pays tribute to the blues greats with a drinks menu to match. Ever wondered what a “Corpse Reviver” or a “Rosemary’s Baby” taste like? Find out here.
Clubs: Start the night with DJ sounds

- If you’re not ready to go home yet even in the early hours, never fear. You’ve got a few solid options, including Milchbar, which features an ever-changing rotation of musical theme nights from the 80s to the 2000s.
- Another place you can’t go wrong if you’re looking to let loose during the week is Willenlos.
- Pimpernel is the perfect spot for electro, house and party lovers.
Best views: Flying high when you clock off

Upside East
- For after-work drinks with a view, head to Upside East. On the last Tuesday of every month, there are also sundowner drinks that literally deserve their name, and DJs with danceable sound. So if you want to get high after a long day at work, this is definitely the place to be.
- Come to Café Glockenspiel to enjoy a beer after work and you’ll be rewarded with a fantastic view of the hustle and bustle below at Marienplatz and the impressive façade of the New Town Hall.
- The Café im Vorhoelzer Forum is one of the nicest rooftop bars in Munich. TU Munich students spend their days studying here, but you can come here in the evening to relax and enjoy an incredible panoramic view of the city over drinks. From here you can enjoy the city skyline.
- Frauenkirche and the rooftops surrounding it make for a dreamlike backdrop, which you an enjoy from the rooftop terrace at Hotel Bayerischer Hof.
- The Flushing Meadows Hotel is located on Fraunhoferstrasse and is a hit with the younger crowd.
Tips for after work beer outside

Cafe Gans am Wasser
- All aboard! The Alte Utting is a unique new after-work location on the Munich scene: a disused Ammersee ferry enthroned on a Sendlinger railway bridge. Nowhere else in the city can you sit out on deck and drink a beer after work while listening to live concerts by indie musicians being played from the ship's belly.
- There’s no place like Café Gans am Wasser (photo). The charming caravan, the green trees of Westpark and the evening sun reflected on the tranquil East Lake make this location so special. And when the weather gets chilly, simply retreat into the café’s network of tents.
- For those looking for a touch more independence: There are plenty of options for grabbing a drink to go from a kiosk along the banks of the Isar. Kiosk an der Reichenbachbrücke (right at Reichenbachbrücke bridge) is open 23 hours a day from 6am to 5am and sells everything you could need. Be sure to bring a blanket in the fall though!
- The Bahnwärter Thiel is a bar, culture hub, concert hall and meeting place all in one. And just because of the almost daily changing program you should stop by here after work!
