EC supporting program: fan zone, live bands, public viewing

UEFA EURO 2024 in Munich - 100 days to go: "Anticipation is rising!"

There are now less than 100 days until the UEFA EURO 2024 kicks off in the host city of Munich: On June 14, 2024, the opening match between Germany and Scotland will take place in the Munich Football Arena. On March 6, Host City Munich presented the highlights of the supporting program under the motto "100 days to go". What you can expect during the European Championships: the matches in Munich, the fan zone in the Olympic Park, the city's entertainment and cultural program and much more.

(March 6, 2024) Only the weather is not yet right on this rainy March 6, exactly 100 days before the UEFA EURO 2024 kicks off in Munich. At least not from the point of view of the German fans, who are hoping for a new summer fairytale at the tournament "dahoam" (Bavarian: "at home"). At the "100 days to go" event, it's "Glasgow weather", perhaps alluding to the Scots, who the DFB team will face on June 14 in the Football Arena Munich.

A copy of the UEFA EURO Trophy in front of the entrance to the Coubertin Restaurant in the Olympic Park puts the guests in an euphoric tournament mood, as does the colorful, oversized lettering "Munich loves Europe" on the roof of the Small Olympic Hall and the cheerful mascot "Albärt", who greets the guests with high fives.

"We are cosmopolitan, we are hospitable" - why Munich can host major sporting events

"The excitement is growing," says Mayor Verena Dietl at the start of the press conference and is convinced: "Munich will show itself from its best side. We are cosmopolitan, we are hospitable. We will carry the power that football radiates out into the world." And Florian Kraus, Munich City Head of Education and Sport, adds: "Munich has shown time and again: We can do major sporting events."

Of course, this also applies to the supporting program and especially to the Fan Zone, which will be open in the Olympic Park on all 31 days of the UEFA EURO and will put everyone in a summer fairytale mood - whether football fan or not, whether Munich resident or European guest.

Olympic Park boss Marion Schöne assures: "We want to create a great and peaceful atmosphere. The Olympic Park should become a place of encounter, a European place."

The Fan Zone in the Olympic Park: public viewing, concerts, action for everyone

"The biggest problem," says Klaus Cyron, Managing Director of S&K Marketing GmbH, with a smile, "will be not missing the games on the 31 days with so much supporting program and so much content in the Fan Zone in the Olympic Park!"

The three large screens for public viewing, on which not only the 6 games in Munich but all 51 European Championship games will be broadcast live, can certainly help - the largest screen on the Olympic lake has 120 square meters. Sit on the grassy steps, get something to eat and drink from the food trucks and bars and enjoy the football party of the summer!

But the Fan Zone is more than just public screening. A free 31-day program with music, culture, art and lots of hands-on activities and sporting action will make the Olympic Park the place to be between 14 June and 14 July. 30 bands will be playing live in the Fan Zone at the Olympic Lake, including popular German bands such as Moop Mama and Münchener Freiheit. Plus: comedy shows, art events, street dance, open-air cinema, workshops for children and much more ...

There will be a program by the Bavarian Football Association on a mini football pitch and freestyle pro Patrick Bäurer will show off his acrobatic football tricks.

If you like, you can watch the whole thing from above, as Olympic Park boss Marion Schöne explains: "You can fly from the Olympic mountain over the Olympic lake and land at the Olympic swimming hall!" The Flying Fox course is 400 meters long - certainly a highlight of the Fan Zone summer party!

The Fan Zone is open daily from June 14 to July 14 from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., on days when the match starts at 9 p.m. until approx. one hour after the final whistle.

The Host City Munich: Volunteers and inner city program

World referee Felix Brych is the official ambassador of Host City Munich. Cosmopolitanism, tolerance, fairness - values that football unites people with and that are close to his heart, just like the volunteers, each of whom will be a Munich ambassador at the European Championships: "Very important for us, the volunteers, as the face of the city!" His message to the 1,600 or so volunteers who will be available to fans and guests throughout the city: "We need you, cosmopolitan, helpful, hospitable, just like we are here in Munich!"

The 6 matches in Munich will take place in the football arena, but the summer fairytale feeling will be felt throughout the city: The city's supporting program in downtown Munich on the match days will make sure of that.

Because UEFA EURO 2024 is more than just football! There will be a supporting program for fans, Munich residents and guests throughout the city: street activities, the "Spectacular", a "Stadium of Dreams", the EC Impro, light art and host city dressing..

Street Activations

Groups and street artists on the ball and on the (quick) drawing board, break dancers and singers will perform in the city center on the six days of the match.

„Spectacular“

Six games - six places to meet: that's the concept behind the "Spectacular". Under the motto "#hockdiher", meeting points with benches will be set up at six locations in the city of Munich. These will get people talking and will remain in place after the Euro.

The stadium of dreams

Football and culture come together at and in the Fat Cat at the old Gasteig in a place that makes the dream of a common Europe come true: With theater and concerts, performances and panels, readings and films, exciting voices from art and culture, from sport and society tell what fascinates them about football.

Light-Art

Munich landmarks and sights (such as the Karlstor, Siegestor or Isartor) will be illuminated with light and color effects during the evening hours on the six match days. These were already top photo motifs for Munich residents and tourists at Euro 2020!

European Masters in Improvisation (ImproEM)

Who are the best word acrobats in Europe? 18 European teams meet in an impro competition, duel on stage for the audience's favor and choose their own European Masters in Improvisation Theatre.

Host-City-Dressing

In a nutshell: The European Football Championships will be recognizable throughout the cityscape. In addition to the UEFA EURO streetcar and the UEFA EURO bus, the tournament will be present on the classic areas for flags and special displays, but above all digitally. All the flags and banners used will later be upcycled into useful items such as bags and folders.

Comments on the UEFA EURO 2024

"In 100 days, all of football in Europe will be watching Munich. The anticipation for the European Championships is growing, not only among the fans, but also for us as the host city. As an important sports city, we are proud that the opening match will take place here in Munich on June 14, 2024. I am sure that we will once again be excellent hosts. I can say to all Munich residents and all guests who will come to Munich: In addition to the matches in the stadium, an attractive supporting program awaits you in the Fan Zone in the Olympic Park. We are looking forward to many great encounters - in the stadium between the teams and in the city between the fans."

"The Fan Zone in the Olympiapark and the colorful supporting program throughout the city will make the tournament an experience for everyone - and offer much more than football. There will be lots of activities throughout the tournament, with free admission. If the weather cooperates, we are sure to experience a unique UEFA EURO 2024 atmosphere once again."

Florian Kraus, Head of the Department of Education and Sport

"The volunteers are the face of Munich before and during the European Football Championships. Our volunteers will be on hand to help and advise all guests and locals during the tournament. Without them, the smooth running of the stadium and the entire city would be unimaginable. A total of 25,000 people have applied and around 1,600 volunteers will be part of UEFA EURO 2024. This huge support makes us proud and we would like to thank them now."

"The Olympic Park has been a place of joie de vivre and encounters for over 50 years, a place that brings people from all over the world together again and again at unique events. We are therefore very much looking forward to hosting the Fan Zone at UEFA EURO 2024. As was the case for the first time at the 2006 World Cup, the Olympic Park will be 'the' location to share the excitement and keep your fingers crossed, the place for the ultimate football TV experience in Munich. For 31 days, Hans-Jochen-Vogel place will offer a program that leaves nothing to be desired. With public viewing, music, art, culture, infotainment and interactive offers."

Marion Schöne, CEO Olympic Park Munich

"We are delighted to be part of EURO 2024 with the Fan Zone in the Olympic Park and the wide range of activities there, around 1,600 volunteers for the Munich venue and our BFV Volunteer Academy. Throughout the European Championship, there will be a program for young and old, both for active players and anyone interested in soccer. We will show how attractive and versatile football is in Bavaria and the social power it develops. Above all, everything is geared towards inspiring all visitors and participants for football in the club in the long term, beyond the EURO."

UEFA EURO 2024 in Munich is so sustainable

The sports city of Munich has been a pioneer for sustainable sporting events for years. In addition to the German and international requirements, the host city of Munich has developed a large number of local measures that will be implemented for the European Football Championships.

One example is the "FAIR PLAY ZONE" in the Olympic Park - a central platform in the fan zone that raises awareness of sustainability with free hands-on activities, quizzes, exhibitions, workshops and much more. A holistic range of sports activities encourages people to get active.

In addition, attractive cycle routes to the stadium in Fröttmaning will be defined and advertised and the sustainable materials of the host city dressing will be creatively upcycled after the end of the tournament.
