Those who have mastered the climb to the Olympia Alm, 564 meters above sea level, are rewarded with Bavarian delicacies, barbecue specialties and drinks in addition to the beautiful view. The cool Halbe provides relief in the hot months, the surrounding hills invite you to sunbathe.

If there is snow, you can look forward to a hot mulled wine. Especially after an extensive toboggan run on the numerous tracks.

The Olympia-Alm also regularly hosts events such as summer festivals, the Dance into May or even Wiesn parties.

Another insider tip: The Olympiaberg is ideal for listening to the concerts of world stars in the Olympic Stadium free of charge.

History: From workers' kiosk to Olympia-Alm

Originally, the Alm was a kiosk for the workers who helped build the site for the 1972 Olympic Games.

On the mountain, which consists of rubble heaped together from the Second World War, they had their lunch break.

More Munich residents soon realized that this sunny spot was a real insider tip, and so the kiosk became a beer garden - the highest in the entire city.

Getting there and public transport

  • Public transport: A walk of 10 to 20 minutes is necessary to visit the Olympia Alm. In the south of the Olympia-Alm, streetcar lines 20, 21 and bus 53 stop at Leonrodplatz, streetcar 12 at Infanteriestraße, streetcar 27 at Ackermannstraße or bus 154 at Ackermannbogen. The nearest subway station is Petuelring (U3) in the northeast of the hill.
  • Parking: There are plenty of visitor parking spaces in the Olympiapark and the parking situation is not too bad in the streets around the park.
