Background and history of the Augustiner Brewery in Munich
- Foundation: After the Augustinian monks founded a monastery at the gates of Munich in 1294, a brewery was also built at the beginning of the 14th century, which was first mentioned by name in 1328.
- Secularization: As part of the secularization, the monastery was dissolved in 1803. Only the monastery brewery remained - initially under state and later under private management.
- Relocation: Due to dilapidation of the premises, the brewery was moved to Neuhauser Straße in 1817.
- Transfer to private ownership: In 1829, the Wagner family of brewers acquired the brewing site. Since then, the brewery has been a middle-class, privately owned family brewery. After the death of Anton Wagner in 1844, his wife Therese continued to run the brewery. After the death of his mother, Joseph Wagner took over the brewery in 1858.
- New building: After the completion of the new building on Landsberger Strasse, the brewery operations were able to move there in 1883.
