Blick durch das Teleskop
Deutsches Museum
  • To observe real stars, planets and galaxies, the observatory of the Deutsches Museum is open to visitors during the day and at night.

  • Two observation domes offer a great view over Munich.
  • Through a modern telescope with a professional zoom lens, the fascinating starry sky can be observed up close.
  • Visitors should not miss to also cast an eye on the remarkable architecture and mechanics of the domes

Observe stars and night sky by telescope

Looking through one of the telescopes of the two observation domes is even possible during the day. The latest technology allows captivating images from the distant cosmos and the stars directly above Munich at any time of day.

At night, of course, the view is impressive - but not only into the sky, but also over the city from this elevated vantage point.

About the architecture of the observation domes

The observatory of the Deutsches Museum offers its visitors two observation possibilities at once:

  • The east dome with its Görz reflecting telescope has a focal length of 3600 mm, about ten times that of a professional zoom lens. The instrument now has motorization with computer control. Celestial objects can thus be approached automatically.
  • The west dome with a refractor (refracting telescope) was last extensively renovated in 2012. The impressive telescope with its five-meter telescope impresses with a focal length of 5000 mm. It weighs more than eight tons.
