Places of interest: Maxmonument and Government of Upper Bavaria
If you walk along Maximilianstraße from the city center outward, the Maximilianeum is the most visible point of reference at its end. It is not only one of Munich's most impressive buildings, but also the seat of the Bavarian Parliament.
In front of the Bavarian Parliament stands the Maxmonument, a statue which shows the former Bavarian King Maximilian II.
Another impressive building that you will find not far from the Maxmonument is that of the Government of Upper Bavaria (Regierung von Oberbayern). It was built in the middle of the 19th century and has kept its magnificence to this day.

Culture: Theater, Opera and Museum Five Continents
One of Munich's top addresses for the performing arts is Max-Joseph-Platz, where Maximilianstrasse begins. Here you will find the Residenztheater, the National Theater and the Bavarian State Opera with its performances of operas, operettas and ballet.
In the Museum Fünf Kontinente (Museum Five Continents), cultures from all over the world meet in permanent and special exhibitions.
