Munich's Trinity Church at a glance

 The Catholic monastery church was built as a votive church of the Munich estates:

  • Year of construction: it was built from 1711 to 1718.
  • Architecture: The late Baroque style runs through the entire church.
  • Special feature: The dome fresco created by Cosmas Damian Asam. Together with his brother, the latter also built the Asam Church in Munich's old town.
  • Getting there: The Trinity Churches adress is Pacellistraße 6. You can get there using the S-bahn or U-bahn from the central station in less than 10 minutes. From the Karlsplatz (Stachus) or Marienplatz stations, it is just a few minutes walk. Even closer is the tram are tram stops Lenbachplatz or Theatinerstraße (Lines 16, 17, 20 or 21)

The abbey, completed in 1716 according to the plans of Giovanni Antonio Viscardi, was constructed as a votive church.

Munich’s first church building in the late Baroque style is distinguished by the dome fresco from Cosmas Damian Asam constructed between 1714 and 1715.

Furthermore, works from Andreas Faistenberger and Johan Baptist Straub are located in the church, which remained undamaged during World War II.

History of the church founding

The decision to build the church was made in 1704 on the basis of a vow by Bavarian estates and the citizens of Munich.

A church was to be built in honor of the Holy Trinity in order to be spared from Austria during the War of the Spanish Succession.
