Vhils: „Strata“
Das Museum of Urban and Contemporary Art (MUCA) präsentiert mit „Strata“ die erste Einzelausstellung des portugiesischen Urban-Art-Künstlers Vhils in Deutschland. Vom 12. März bis 30. November 2025 erleben Besucher*innen seine künstlerische Entwicklung von 2005 bis 2025 anhand vielfältiger Materialien und Techniken – eine Reise durch zwei Jahrzehnte innovativer urbaner Kunst.

Was erwartet euch in der Ausstellung?
Der portugiesische Künstler Vhils (Alexandre Farto, 1987) ist international bekannt für seine unkonventionelle urbane Kunst, in der er Oberflächen gezielt zerstört, um verborgene Geschichten ans Licht zu bringen. Die Ausstellung bietet ein immersives Erlebnis und präsentiert eindrucksvolle Werke aus Beton, Holz, Metall und Papier sowie Videos – darunter filigrane Wandschnitzereien aus der Serie Scratching the Surfaces.
Zudem werden bislang unveröffentlichte Archivmaterialien aus Vhils' persönlicher Sammlung gezeigt, die nicht nur Kenner*innen begeistern dürften. Besucher*innen erhalten einen bewegenden Einblick in über 20 Jahre seines Schaffens und gewinnen ein tiefes Verständnis für seine Vision urbaner Kunst.

Werk und Vision des Urban-Art-Künstlers Vhils
Vhils' großformatige Werke sprengen die traditionellen Grenzen der Kunst und thematisieren Identität, Erinnerung und den Wandel städtischer Räume. Mit seiner subtraktiven Technik verändert er die Wahrnehmung der Umgebung: Er ritzt Wände und Werbetafeln ein, um verborgene Schichten des Lebens freizulegen und anonymen Menschen eine Stimme zu geben.
Für ihn ist Kunst ein Mittel, die Folgen von Urbanisierung und Globalisierung sichtbar zu machen. Dabei versteht er Zerstörung als einen schöpferischen Akt, der Verstecktes ans Licht bringt. Neben seiner charakteristischen Basrelief-Schnitztechnik arbeitet er mit Schablonenmalerei, Metallätzung, pyrotechnischen Explosionen und weiteren unkonventionellen Methoden.

Dieser Beitrag über die Münchner Museen wird vom Kulturreferat der Landeshauptstadt München gefördert und ist in Kooperation mit der Landesstelle für die nichtstaatlichen Museen in Bayern konzipiert worden. Die Inhalte wurden zwischen den beteiligten Museen und muenchen.de, dem offiziellen Stadtportal, abgestimmt.
